Proper care is crucial throughout your orthodontic treatment. Be mindful of what you eat and how you handle your braces to ensure a smooth treatment process.
While you’ll need to avoid chewy, crunchy, sticky, and hard foods that can damage your braces, there are still plenty of enjoyable options. Stick to soft foods like dairy products, soft breads, tender meats, and cooked vegetables. You’ll be back to enjoying treats like popcorn and chips after your treatment.
Initial soreness is normal. To ease it, rinse with a saltwater solution. If discomfort persists, over-the-counter pain relievers can help. Wax can be applied to the braces to reduce irritation from lips, cheeks, and tongue.
It’s normal for teeth to feel slightly loose as they are being repositioned. This is a temporary phase and a sign that your braces are working.
If wires or bands loosen, contact our office for repairs. In the meantime, gently use the back of a spoon or a pencil eraser to reposition wires, and apply wax for comfort on any irritating parts.
Taking care of your braces and other appliances is crucial to avoid extending treatment time. Follow your orthodontist’s instructions diligently.
You can still participate in sports, but wearing a mouthguard is essential for protecting your teeth and braces. In case of a sports-related emergency, check for any damage and contact our office. Apply wax or rinse with warm salt water for temporary relief.
