Herbst® Appliance

This appliance is designed to correct overbites by promoting the forward movement of the lower jaw and backward movement of the upper molars. Generally used in younger, growing children, the Herbst® appliance is typically worn for about 12-15 months.

Palatal Expander

Used to widen the upper jaw, the palatal expander applies gentle pressure to the upper molars each time an adjustment is made. After achieving the desired expansion, the appliance is worn for several more months to ensure lasting results.

Positioners

These are employed in the final stages of orthodontic treatment to complete the final tooth movements. With proper cooperation, wearing a positioner appliance typically lasts four to eight weeks.

Retainers

Available as either removable or fixed, retainers are essential for maintaining the new position of your teeth post-treatment. Your orthodontist will provide instructions on care and the duration of wear. Adhering to these guidelines is key to preventing treatment regression.

Separators or Spacers

These small rubber doughnuts are placed between teeth to create space for orthodontic bands. They are removed before band placement and should be kept away from sticky foods, toothpicks, or floss.
